Sunday, October 26, 2:00 p.m., Benefit Concert for Hope in the Boat: Breast Cancer Survivors' Dragon Boat Association of the Capital Region, Christ Church United Methodist, 35 State Street, Troy, NY. With the extraordinary Alison Jacob, Maria Zemantauski and Lee Shaw! Tickets may be purchased in advance by contacting Alison Jacob at (518) 377-2647, or emailing duodolce@yahoo.com. They will also be available at the door for $10. The Hope in the Boat Association was formed in late 2007 by a group of breast cancer survivors in the Capitol District who have joined the Dragonboating national movement to combat previously held medical views that upper body exercise is bad for breast cancer survivors. Their goal is to promote wellness and sisterhood for women dealing with this disease. A dragonboat is 40 feet long, seats 20 women with a steerer and a drummer. It is a 'power' sport based on sprint racing. It builds strength and stamina. Women all over the US and the world who are on the breast cancer journey have joined dragonboat teams. Many breast cancer survivors who race talk about the strength that comes from feeling like an athlete rather than a patient. Where will Rosanne be next? Be sure to get on the mailing list ! SELECT PAST SHOWSSaturday, November 17, 7:30 p.m., Lobby concert at Shadowland Theatre, 157 Canal St, Ellenville, NY, 845.647.5511, www.shadowlandtheatre.org.
